How to Choose Your Emergency Contacts (and Set Up Your Phone)

3 min read

Your emergency contacts are only useful if they can respond. Here is how to choose them well.

In immediate danger, call 112 first. This guide is general safety information, not medical or legal advice.

Pick people who will actually answer

Choose people who usually pick up their phone and live or work near you. A parent who is far away and always in meetings is a poor first contact. Aim for at least two, ideally in different places.

Mix family and friends

Include someone from your household and someone outside it. If you are travelling or at work, a nearby friend can reach you faster than family in another city.

Tell them they are your contact

Ask permission, and explain what an alert from SANRAKSH looks like so they do not dismiss it. Contacts who accept the guardian invite can receive alarms inside the app.

Add medical details

Add your blood group and anything responders should know — allergies, medicines, conditions. This information is shared only when an emergency is reported.

Review it twice a year

Numbers change and people move. Check your contacts when you renew your plan or change your phone.
