Vehicle Documents Checklist for Bike and Car Owners in India

3 min read

Four documents every rider should be able to produce, and a safe way to keep copies on your phone.

In immediate danger, call 112 first. This guide is general safety information, not medical or legal advice.

The four essentials

Police at a checkpoint can ask to see these. Keep them valid and easy to reach.

  • Registration Certificate (RC) — proves who owns the vehicle
  • Insurance certificate — at least third-party cover is mandatory
  • Driving licence — valid for the type of vehicle you ride or drive
  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate — must be current

Keep an eye on expiry dates

Insurance and PUC certificates expire and are easy to forget. Note the valid-until dates and renew a week early. SANRAKSH lets you record a validity date against each document.

Keep copies safe

Photograph or scan each document and keep the files somewhere private. Avoid sending images of your documents over open chat groups. In SANRAKSH, files are encrypted and unlock only with your 4-digit PIN.

Sharing with police

If asked to verify documents, you can show originals or digital copies you hold. With a SANRAKSH QR on your vehicle, authorised people can verify your documents with the PIN you give them, and you are notified every time.
